⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An absolute must-see when visiting Waikiki! Just a heads-up for out-of-state folks: you must have a reservation, so make sure to book yours online before heading over. I highly recommend grabbing a slot for sunrise—it is hands down the best time to experience this trail. Don't underestimate the trek, as it is not an easy hike! Bring plenty of water, wear good shoes, and be ready for some serious steep climbs, including a trek through a tunnel near the top. The effort is 100% worth it, though. Once you reach the summit, the views are absolutely gorgeous, offering sweeping, panoramic looks at Honolulu, the Waikiki coastline, and the surrounding ocean. Highly recommend!

Beautiful hike that's definitely a workout. Well worth it when you get to the top. You actually drive into a tunnel at one end of the volcano and parking inside and hike within the caldera to the top. It's got everything from gravel to rocky pathways carved along the way to cement steps to tunnels and an old iron spiral stairway that let's you out inside a cement bunker or pillbox that was a WW2 lookout that still has the cement stands where large machine guns once sat. The view is breathtaking and so is the hike. Many shaded areas and benches along the way to rest and take a breather. I stopped a few times to take a few sips of water and cool down. Parking was ample and you definitely need to book a time online ahead of time and pay for Parking. 20 bucks for 2 people and one car. They book in 2 hour windows and we were there by 2pm and out by a little after 3. We took our pics and left. Really needed to shower and relax afterwards. I saw all ages there and a few people with canes even. Not sure how they managed the rocky/bumpy terrain. Definitely a serious hike and gets hot so water/shade/breaks and you'll get there. I would do it again but there's also other pillbox hikes in Oahu so who knows? Maybe a new one next time?

Totally worth it! I would recommend making a reservation and getting a parking spot. The walk is uphill and can be hot and very sunny so bring sunblock, water, and appropriate clothing. Eventually you'll start climbing stairs but the view is definitely worth it. Be advised it can be very busy, with tons of people so take that into account if you don't like tight spaces or large crowds - it never felt dangerous but yeah, there could be a lot of people. You'll be glad you went though!

Amazing views. Not to crowded. Went early in the morning. The stairs are alot of stairs to go up. But the views are worth it. Bring bug spray as there is some standing water at the top, mosquitoes may be present. Also bring sun screen not too much shade depending on time of day. Make sure to get your reservation. We had 8 am to 10 am. 2 hours, only really took 1 hour to hike and then a few minutes to check out gift stands.

Surprisingly low cost of admission ($5 p/adult) and parking ($10) relative to the entire rest of the island. The hike is moderately challenging, with narrow paths, uneven stone floors, and rapid elevation climbing. There's also a narrow tunnel you must navigate - which could be claustrophobic for some. But the view at the summit is breathtaking and totally worth the climb in my opinion. Also, take a seat on one of the benches in the lower basin by the parking lot and appreciate the fields and the surrounding crater walls - it's serene. A very fun trip and definitely worth it if you're up for a hike.
