Google wants me to review Chinatown. CHINATOWN! I don't really know how, but I'll give it a shot. Chinatown is a classic market that you'd find in Asia. If you love going to markets in Asia, or if you have lived in Asia and are used to buying all of your groceries there - this place is for you. Hope that helps someone out there looking for a review of Chinatown 🤣🤣🤣

There is a lot of homelessness especially by the river. Even waiting for the bus stop, you will get harassed by one or have someone just yelling nonsense. 8 years ago, this area wasn't as run down. There is a lot of fresh fruit being sold. A lot of the area is boarded up. I saw a bakery and when I type its name in Google, the first search is about being shut down by the city for failing health violation two months ago..Do your research!

HELP USHER IN THE LUNAR NEW YEAR OF THE WOOD SNAKE. Festivities begin in the New Year on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. CHECK OUT THE WEEKENDS IN CHINATOWN. ENJOY THE SPECIAL HUSTLE AND BUSTLE OF THE PLACE. It seems to me that everyone makes a special effort, while shopping for fresh groceries, to re-connect with family, friends and acquaintances at the market. Each year, everyone makes special prepaeations for the Chinese New Year. This year, those of Chinese ancestry celebrated their astonishing 4,721st year of festivities, the Year of the Dragon, in Chinatown Honolulu. And, they were joined by Chinese around the world, on Saturday, February 10th, 2024. But, here in Honolulu there was a prior "dress rehearsal" of sorts. So, locally, on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024, there was an extravagant, colorful and noisy parade and celebration in Chinatown. Yes. Yes. Those remarkable little red noisy guys (firecrackers) are especially deployed to permanently scare-off the pesky, "bad-luck" demons, and replace them with "good-luck" thoughts and wishes along with exciting "new beginnings" and forward-looking hopes for business (and personal) success, health, and good fortune(s). Note: This is actually the Chinese New Year celebrated by the Chinese NOW for their 4,721st year. Festivities date back to the reign of the Yellow Emperor, whose emperorship began in year 2,697 BCE. This fact and view, across the many years, adds another interesting historical perspective. But, in still other cultures, New Year's celebrations figure still further back in antiquity. Also, there is another interesting side-note to add to our discussion. This year, on September 15th, 2024, our Jewish brothers and sisters, will celebrate Rosh Hashanah, meaning "Head of the Year," ushering in their 5785th celebration of "Feasts of Trumpets." This New Year's festival, therefore, goes way back multiple centuries in time.

Chinese new year was great but the streets are sketchy at night. Lots of closed shops and dirty sidewalks with drifters. Go with a group if you're out for drinks and be careful where you park.
