After a disappointing experience with another garden designer who produced lovely sketches but never once talked about plants and didn’t show us any samples of materials and was not able to design to a budget, we were left feeling despondent about our garden renovation. We initially called Steve for some independent advice — but from that very first hour-long conversation through to the final sign-off as the landscapers packed up, he couldn’t have been more helpful, professional, and easy to work with. Our project was unusual: we knew we wanted a multi-tiered garden with steps and a contemporary, low-maintenance planting scheme — but Steve really elevated the design in ways we hadn’t even considered. His ideas for layout, proportions, and materials gave the space far more impact and flow than we’d imagined. He took care of all the technical plans and drawings, and throughout the process he kept us updated, met with us to review paving samples in person, and introduced two excellent landscapers who quoted directly and competitively. During the build, Steve regularly checked in to make sure we were happy and that the landscapers had what they needed. When it came to the planting scheme, he truly excelled — guiding us to select plants that suited how we wanted to live with the garden, balancing colour, texture, and structure perfectly. When it was time to choose specimen trees, he even travelled to a nursery in the south of England and FaceTimed us with a shortlist before we bought. Now, with a year’s growth, the garden has really taking shape and looks fantastic. We’re absolutely over the moon with it. Even now, we sometimes call Steve with questions and he’s always happy to help. If you’re looking for a garden designer who is creative, meticulous, and genuinely invested in getting you the best result, we can’t recommend Steve highly enough.

Steve was available to help when we had been let down by a number of other designers. From our first meeting i could tell he was the right person for what we wanted. Steve came up with some great ideas for a tricky space at the front of the house and was willing to combine different elements from his design options to suit what we wanted. He was also happy to incorporate any plant choices we had into his design. The hard landscaping was done with the minimum of fuss. Steve sourced all the plants and worked so hard doing all the planting. Following the planting, through no fault of Steve, there were some problems with some of the bushes. Others may have not bothered dealing with the problem but to his great credit he liaised with the nursery, got replacement bushes and planted them. We now have a fabulous front garden, much better than we could have expected and love it. Steve has shown great attention to detail, whether it is the specific plants he chooses or in the choice of planters, which are so important but which others may miss or not be concerned about. Would i recommend Steve Harris design? Absolutely. He is a talented designer, hard working and just a nice chap who i enjoyed talking to on his many visits to assess the site and discuss his ideas. Will definitely use again.

Our garden project started with a large rectangular lawn and a very shaded paved area next to the house, neither of which added to our enjoyment of the garden. Having contacted Steve, he visited the garden and listened to our "wish list". Steve sent us a number of design proposals; we finally settled on one and moved on to planting plans. The final plans were highly detailed - ideal for the hard landscaping contractors - and the planting plans were beautiful! We faced some issues throughout the project (outside Steve's control) with shortages of materials and a nursery which supplied some incorrect plants but Steve was always available to help, advise and work patiently around the issues. We now have: a gravel/woodland garden area full of shade loving plants; new flower beds planted in beautiful colours; a rose arch; a wildlife pond and a raised seating area so we can see the Alnmouth coloured houses. Every morning is a joy watching the garden develop and grow. Thank you Steve - we are very happy to recommend you and your work.

Absolutely love the way space has been used in the designs Steve has created for us. Having recently moved into a new build home, we had 2 empty garden areas to the front and rear. The spaces weren’t huge, but we wanted to do something interesting with them, and create somewhere the family could enjoy spending time and looking at. From a couple of videos taken with my phone, and a rough plan with some dimensions, Steve came up with fantastic designs for both the front and rear gardens. He used what space we had to create a beautiful front garden, which will look amazing all year round. And divided the rear garden into zones to make it feel bigger, and cater for multiple uses such as entertaining, relaxing, and playing football with our son :-) Oh, and all took into account the local soil conditions and garden aspects, which Steve researched. The designs specified everything we needed to make it a reality, including detailed descriptions, plans, planting lists, and maintenance instructions. Steve worked with us all the way through the process, discussing ideas, and making amendments as we wished. He also designed specific aspects purely for the requirements of our 2 cats! Couldn’t be happier with the end result, and Steve was very easy to work with. Would highly recommend him to anyone.

We have worked with Steve now on a number of varied projects and he is alway the consummate professional. Nothing is too much trouble and his attention to detail is extremely refreshing. His designs and planting schemes are always first class. He’s also a thoroughly nice chap.
